Last year, an outbreak of fusarium keratitis resulted in the recall of ReNu With Moisture Loc made by Bausch & Lomb. This past weekend, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention linked an outbreak of acanthamoeba keratitis to AMO Complete Moisture Plus Multi-Purpose Solution, a contact lens solution made by Advanced Medical Optics of Santa Ana, California. Ancanthamoeba karatitis is caused by a parasite and can cause a blinding eye infection. This outbreak has so far involved at least 138 patients. This outbreak has so far involved 138 patients. The infection effects the cornea and can lead to the need for corneal implants or removal of the eye. Although officials may recommend that consumers discard the product, users of this solution should save any partly used bottles. If you are unfortunate enough to contract this terrible eye infection, you will want to be able to prove you used the tainted contact lens solution.
