The jury determined that the sole remaining defendant at trial, Georgia Pacific Corp., was responsible for 30% of the verdict. The plaintiff was a former film actress and singer who toured the world seven times entertaining our troops as a USO singer. The plaintiff and her husband started a part-time...

Mesothelioma is an aggressive lung cancer caused by exposure to asbestos. A New Jersey jury recently returned a $30 million verdict in favor of a 50 year old advertising executive who died from mesothelioma. The decedant's exposure to asbestos was when he worked summer jobs at GM warehouses handling asbestos-containing automotive parts. The decedant's father also worked full-time at the...

Manufacturers of sterile medical products are supposed to follow strict sterility standards. Unfortunately, there has been a growing number of reports and recalls of contaminated medical products caused by poor quality controls by manufacturers of products required to be sterile. The latest recall involves heparin IV flush syringes found to be contaminated with Serratia marcescens, a...

No sane parent should buy a toy made in China. As if the lead paint crisis was not bad enough, a children's toy modeled after the popular television series CSI tested positive for tremolite, a deadly asbestos powder. Shockingly, the toy is a "CSI: Crime Scene Investigation Fingerprint Examination Kit" and the fingerprint powder contains asbestos. The directions instruct the kids to blow on...

In a lawsuit filed today, actor Dennis Quaid and his wife sued Baxter Healthcare Corp., the maker of the blood thinner, heparin. The Quaid's newborn twins and a third patient at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center were mistakenly given doses of heparin that were 1,000 times stronger than the intended dose. Mattel has now announced its third recall in six weeks because certain toys were found to contain dangerously high levels of toxic lead paint. As with all of the 16 recalls of various toys this year, the products were made in China. Why? Because the cost of lead paint is up to 30% cheaper than non-toxic, lead-free paint. A sales manager at a Chinese toy company recently told a NY Times...

It's high time the American public speaks up and let's the media know that we will no longer stand for programming that contains outrageous, shock commentary that is devoid of reason and simply designed to draw attention to the commentator. Ann Coulter is a perfect example. The more outrageous her statements, the more attention she gets. Recently, a CNBC bimbo commentator said that China "is...

It seems like every other week, Mattel is recalling millions of toys or we're hearing about Thomas the Tank Engine toy recalls. That's because 80% of toys sold in the U.S. are manufactured in China, Chinese manufacturers have been using lead-based paint in toys. The latest news is certain vinyl baby bibs sold at Toys R Us are contaminated with lead. Lead is a harmful neurotoxin that causes...

The Consumer Product Safety Commission tested randomly children's plastic jewelry and found that 20% cotained toxic lead paint. Independent testing done by Massachusetts, Ohio, and other states found much higher percentages of toy jewelry contained lead. Ninety five percent of the jewelry tested by the CPSC came from China. It is now no secret that Chinese firms in the toy supply chain have...

Kudos to Illinois company, RC2, which sells Thomas & Friends toy trains. It was discovered recently that the trains contained lead-based paint, a known neurotoxin which has been banned in this country since 1978. The risks to toddlers and small children prone to chewing on toys is obvious. These toys were unreasonably dangerous, defective products anyway you slice it. Rather than trying to...

Federal agencies ordered Foreign Tires Sales, Inc. to recall up to 450,000 tires it imported from China and sold to U.S. distributors. The reason for the recall is because the Chinese manufacturer unilaterally decided not to install gum strips into its tires, thus increasing the risk of tire separation. The recalled tires were sold under at least four brand names-Westlake, Compass, Telluride,...

I favor free-trade and don't consider myself to be an isolationist, but enough is enough. First we learn that Chinese-made ingredients in pet food are killing our pets. Next we learn that Chinese-made toothpaste is toxic. Recently, we learned that Thomas the Tank Engine toy trains contain enough lead paint to cause permanent brain damage to toddlers who might chew on the toys. Now, the...
